Palm fronds are absolutly stunning in a blackwater biotope aquarium not only do they look amazing they can be put into the aquarium whole or broken into smaller pieces and layered 

They are 1 of the botanicals that can really help bring a biotope to life       

Botanicals are not just great for tannin your water they have fantastic health benifits such as they have antibacterial propertys stress relieving antifungal propertys aid in breeding natural food source and natural hiding places

Botanicals can be added straight away into your aquarium where they will float for a while or until they sink to the bottom
To speed up this process you can boil the botanicals for a couple of minutes.
Over time the botanicals will slowly degrade and can remain in your aquarium
