Palm ring is a flexible botanical that will give your aquarium a natural authentic look i dont think there is another botanical that looks like this 

When submerged in the water the palm ring will uncurl and they will release tannins into the aquarium 

Botanicals are not just great for tannin your water they have fantastic health benifits such as they have antibacterial propertys stress relieving antifungal propertys aid in breeding natural food source and natural hiding places

Botanicals can be added straight away into your aquarium where they will float for a while or until they sink to the bottom
To speed up this process you can boil the botanicals for a couple of minutes.
Over time the botanicals will slowly degrade and can remain in your aquarium
