The cariniana pod grow on the Brazilian Cariniana legalis tree in Brazil where these trees grow as well.

The effects of cariniana pods in the water parameters can be compared with the effects of catappa products

The cariniana pods are full of tannins that have many positive effects and reduce the KH/pH of the water in a natural way

These tannins also have an antibacterial and stress-reducing effect. The cariniana pods give the water a brown tint and are therefore also suitable for creating a blackwater biotope 

Shrimp and other small animals like to hide in the cariniana pods

These make a great addition to any aquarium terrarium paludarium and help creat a natural look in your setup 

Botanicals are not just great for tannin your water they have fantastic health benifits such as they have antibacterial propertys stress relieving antifungal propertys aid in breeding natural food source and natural hiding places

Botanicals can be added straight away into your aquarium where they will float for a while or until they sink to the bottom
To speed up this process you can boil the botanicals for a couple of minutes.
Over time the botanicals will slowly degrade and can remain in your aquarium
